Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, a senior member of the Bangladesh Civil service, previously served as Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Youth & Sports and as Additional Secretary overseeing budget and macro-economic affairs in the Finance Ministry, where he also was Deputy Secretary and Joint Secretary.
Earlier, he was director of audit & finance in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was Counsellor and acting Charge de affaires in the Bangladesh Embassy in Manila. He also served as chief accounts officer at a number of government ministries and was director of commercial audit in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh.
He has served on the governing boards of Janata Bank Limited (the second-largest commercial bank in Bangladesh); Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd.; the Bangladesh Institute of Management; Petrobangla (the national oil company of Bangladesh); and the Institute of Public Finance.
He obtained a doctorate in business administration from the University of the East in Manila in 2008; an MA in Government Financial Management from the University of Ulster, United Kingdom in 2000; and a master’s and bachelor’s (honors) degrees in commerce from the University of Dhaka in 1983. He is a renowned sports personality and he used to play in the First Division Dhaka Volleyball League during 1980s.
