Bridget Baker is a C-suite executive, public and non-profit board director, and recognized industry leader, noted for her distinguished career at NBCUniversal, Inc. A co-founder of CNBC, Ms. Baker was a key architect of the company’s foray into cable and emerging technologies and the portfolio of assets she helped build, and later oversaw, remain among the most highly viewed and profitable in the world.
Her deep expertise across the media and content landscape make her a sought-after speaker and commentator on the future of television and emerging technology; the disruption of traditional businesses amidst the evolution of online models; and resolving enterprise-wide challenges across competitive, global media.
While serving as NBCUniversal’s president of content distribution, Ms. Baker was involved in $50 billion of corporate mergers and acquisitions and oversaw operations, sales, marketing, legal, finance and communications. Following the 2-year transition to integrate new parent company, Comcast Corporation, from 2011 – 2013, Ms. Baker stepped down to establish an independent consultancy, Baker Media Inc., where she serves as an adviser and consultant to CEO’s in the media, technology, and telecommunications sector.
From 2013–2018, Ms. Baker was the first and only woman to serve on the board of directors of General Communication, Inc., Alaska’s largest telecommunications company. G.C.I. offers broadband, video, wireless and wireline services in some of the most remote and rugged terrain in North America and in 2018, the company completed a $2 billion merger with John Malone’s Liberty Interactive to form GCI Liberty (Nasdaq: GLIBA). During the year-long diligence process and deal transaction, Ms. Baker was one of three board members appointed to the Special Committee charged with the sensitive task of representing shareholders’ interests. While on the board, Ms. Baker was pivotal in creating the GCI Women’s Network, the company’s first-ever employee resource group.
In 2016, Ms. Baker was nominated to the board of directors of Yahoo! which garnered her national and international coverage in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, CNBC, Bloomberg, and Investor Business Daily as, “the person who helped build NBC’s cable empire,” “a media expert,” and one of nine “extremely impressive media and tech execs who will not only give Yahoo a serious run but could be on Google’s board right now.”
Ms. Baker’s nonprofit board experience ranges from cable industry organizations to educational institutions and women’s advocacy groups. She has served as a trustee of her alma mater, Pitzer College, since 2002 and was honored with the college’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010.
As the sole woman inducted to the Cable TV Pioneers Association in 2008, she was also awarded NCTA’s Vanguard Award for Distinguished Leadership, considered the cable industry’s highest honor, four years later. Ms. Baker is a member of C200, an invitation-only global organization of top women business leaders.
Ms. Baker’s roots are in Alaska and she began her professional life as an aide on Capitol Hill to the late US Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska.
